The name Clary comes from the Latin word “clarus”, meaning “clear”, as it was found to be an effective eye medication. Clary Sage essential oil is often used in place of Sage oil since they have similar therapeutic properties but the amount of thujene in Clary Sage oil is much lower than that of Sage, which results in lower risks of toxicity and a safer oil for the treatment of physical ailments.

It restores and invigorates the body during convalescence from illness. Clary Sage helps regulate blood pressure; high blood pressure often decreases after Clary Sage baths and inhalations. Clary Sage essential oil is also an excellent relaxant having aphrodisiacal, euphoric, antidepressant characteristics especially helpful in the treatment of menopausal or PMS symptoms. An effective remedy for insomnia, it is likewise effectual for feelings of paranoia, panic, or hysteria. The oil is also used for its antiseptic, astringent, carminative and deodorant properties. These properties make it useful in the treatment of boils and infections as well as in skin care.

Blends Well: with Bergamot, Cardamom, Cedarwood, Coriander, Frankincense, Geranium, Jasmine, Juniper, Labdanum, Lavandin, Mimosa, Neroli, Petitgrain, Pine, Sandalwood, and Vetiver

Cautions: Clary Sage essential oil is non-toxic, non-sensitizing and non-irritant. However, use of Clary Sage essential oil should be avoided during pregnancy. It is also believed to cause excessive drowsiness when used immediately after or before the consumption of alcohol.
